When is a Training Course Designed to Fail?1059

Forum Owner Belew private msg quote post Address this user
I have access to a training course that offers a LOT of promise. Otherwise I woukd not be checking it out.

In the earnest desire of this course creator to over deliver I think the course is overkill.

trying to wrap my head around the course to get a big picture idea of how long it will take for me to complete it and to map out a strategy to study...i was overwhelmed.

There were 209 videos of 5 min to 55 mins.

There were 50+ pdf downloads.

There was over 40 hours of stuff to watch.

There were 3899, no typo, comments left by others.

Looks like there is/was a lot of interest. Also is very unwelcoming.

How could this course be more inviting to a new student?

I have ideas. What are yours?

I am assuming the 209 videos add up to 40 hours.

I recently completed course material totaling about 104 hours. The material was well organized into logical units. I was able to focus on a topic then move on. The material ranged from easy to very difficult.

I cheated a bit by playing the videos at 1.25x. This meant I needed to be more focused.

I scored among the highest of those tested.

From an academic perspective...

A typical 3 credit course is 16 weeks x 3, total 48 hours. I'm trying to remember the amount of offline. I think it was 3 times classroom or another 144 hours or so study,

You're saying nothing about the 3899 comments. Positive or negative?

Question is, can you do it?

@morrnel

I taught a 48-hr MBA class... 16 hours were lecture.

32 hours was working with the students.

If I spent 10 second each on 3899 comments JUST to read through them = 60 hours!

Why not group them into the best, the worst?

Why not create a calendar Day 1 do this, Week 1 do this ... and so on.

Don't just dump a pile of good 'stuff' on people and expect them to swim through it.

" The material was well organized into logical units."

Most likely 3899 comments have lots of duplicates. Sample 40 or so. Are the comments being read for a reason? If so, what's the reason?

@belew Good to do that. Or else I can't complete the course.
