8 sec attention span is a myth, or is it?1135

Is 8 seconds all we have?

Is it true a gold fish will watch us longer than we will watc him or her? (How do you know tthe gender of a fish?)

I think the 8 sec rule or 60 character rule (the ideal length of a Facebook post) applies when you are trying to GRAB somebody's attention.

You have a bit more time when people search and come to you because you popped up as a possible solution to inquiry. Maybe not much longer...but.

if I am clicking through to check out a search result I am likely to spend more than 8 seconds.

If I know the company or. person who has popped up yet again as a possible solution to my query I am likely to give them even more time.

now that someone has inquired and landed on your site, what can you do to get them to stay?

I think that is a worthy discussion.

It's interesting isn't it ... I wrote about this late last year...

https://website-designs.com/online-marketing/how-to-market-to-those-with-short-attention-spans/

Basically online attention spans are getting lower and lower ... as people seek out new and interesting content.

Does attention span change based on the intent of the reader?

Do they want to be entertained?
Do they want to learn?
Do they want to be inspired?
Do they want to be guided?

Depending on what got them in front of you will determine how patient they are with you to deliver the goods.

Do the 3 E's still apply with a short attention span?

Entertaining
Educational
and Ever Changing

What does that really mean for marketers when it comes to time and dollars spent on the content?

It depends on intention.

Are you trying to grab people's attention?

Are you trying to drive people somepl?

Are you just trying to avoid out of site out of mind?

Are you going for branding?

Or are you the solution someone has looked for a found?

The strategies are different.

Do you agree?
