Where are all the male writers?1249

Research, research ... for my new video assignment to create videos about marketing and influence.

Somehow I ended up at the Ted site. Not a bad place.

And at the Ted Blog and the Ted list of contributors.

39 contributors.

32 are women.
8 are men.
1 is a mystery.

25% are men? Where are all the men?

Is writing for women only?

Making up for lost time. It is not a mans world any more. Hasn't been for some time. Many men still haven't woken up to that fact.

Many women, however, are being seduced by the "it's our turn" mantra and allowing the proverbial pendulum (no pun intended) to swing too far "their" way. Some (many?) are beginning to make the same mistakes so many men made for so very many years, perhaps only because they can.

Opportunity missed.

DNA has something to do with it. While men were hunting and killing women were communicating.

It used to be the 3 fastest ways to get the word out were telephone, telegraph and tell a woman. Maybe it still is. 8-)

"telephone, telegraph and tell a woman"

Perhaps the updated version would be, telephone, telegraph and text a woman.

In our family, however, it would be, telephone, telegraph and text Tionna.

It's always been my experience that if there are a lot of girls in one place, the guys will be there before long.

But, it ain't happening online in the writing space. hmm... something wrong with this picture.

all joking aside...
Women are also taking over seats in higher education.

I recently picked up three magazines on the topic of writing, all dominated by women of all ages.

Perhaps it's the venue.

Ones success in writing is skills based... one doesn't need the cronyism found in good ol'boy networks to succeed... though it can help in the early stages. I think this has empowered a lot of women to enter this field. The professional workspace is still rather gender unbalanced- especially in areas requiring tapping into professional networks to move forward. On-line creates a more hospitable merit based environment for pioneers.

@Belew

We see quite a bit of that at our small indie publishing operation. The men usually give themselves away with the sex scenes, though.
