China Aims to Create New Global Holiday1458

Belew private msg quote post Address this user
China aims to create a new global phenomenon.... called Singles Day.

An incredible "278 million products worth $9.3 billion sold in 24 hours last year, and it is on track to be even bigger this year." And thst was just in China!

Companies sold more in one day than they usually sold on 2-3 months.

China wants this purely consumer focused day to catch on globally.

Sure they do.

What can you offer on Singles Day?

Hi @Belew,

What percentage of the internet-savvy population of India and China speak English?

Is there any viable strategy for folks to translate their websites into alternative languages?

Your experience?

Thanks!

Erik

@Lenderman33

It depends on the product of course.

On my trip this week I am meeting with the head of marketing at one of their top universities. He wants to act on the idea of creating an online course and marketing it to the masses in China.

It can be taught in English ... dubbed...or with Chinese subtitles. We are still figuring that out.

I can forsee a course for English speakers on how to get their course into China. Can you?

More stats.

"$100 million was spent a minute in the first half an hour, with 2012's $3.1 billion total blitzed in 31 minutes. Within 90 minutes, $5 billion dollars had been spent, 72% on mobile. By 1:15am, consumers from 200 countries and regions had bought something."

I went to the Sydney Morning Herald and put two links to their article.

Those figures are almost inconceivable... well, they are for my little brain, that's for sure.

@SusanDay linking to newspapers is poor form.

Articles get archived and break making your site look bad.

And to think 100,000 calls on hold for a 100 person call center was a big deal. This goes back to the 80's.
No big deal, only 1,000 per operator.

@morrnel Even more so if there are 11 of you holding hands together singing 11 bottles of beer on the wall, or the 11th day of Christmas, or...

I can't see Singles Day catching on in the US. 11/11 is already taken.

And 3/3 is White Day in Japan...which kinda sorta does what China wants to do with Singles Day....or not.
