Mashable has 6.51 million Twitter followers.

But ... 27 percent fake, 42 percent inactive, 35 percent good.

Hmm... won't be long before I'll catch up.

84@ of my followers speak English.

11% haven't tweeted in more than 3 months.

7% have less than 250 followers.

Who knew you could do this?

" ABC (not his real name) bought 1,000 fake Twitter accounts for $58 from an online vendor in Pakistan. ABC (still not his real name) programs accounts like these to "follow" other Twitter accounts, and to rebroadcast tweets.

I didn't even know that was possible.

Dummy me.

There is a marketplace for this sort of thing. That's whats sad. Companies and personal brands try so hard to create the illusion that they break themselves in the process.

I usually stay away from the "I always retweet" the "buy follower" and the obvious growth busters (lots of follows, little follow back) but I haven't really looked that much into the inactives, junk accounts, and spammers after I got rid of Crowdfire.

Does crowdfire help at all with Twitter? Or do you not engage with Twitter any more? I'm utilizing it for my book promotion.

@Ktucker

Crowdfireapp is a good tool if you use it the right way...follow the right people and not follow the others.

Just chasing numbers on CFA is a bad strategy. Been there done that.

What's your book about?

Crowdfire is good if you want to build your following quickly (provided quality isn't too much of an issue for you). It will also help you identify inactives, new followers, and those that don't follow you back. Experiment with it but as @Belew hinted numbers should be the byproduct of effort, consistency, and intelligent application.

@lunar_ranger @Ktucker

CFA will let you target the right people. But it is too easy to just chase numbers.

@belew How do you check?

There are too many social media sites to follow up. Currently, I am following up directly with the website users directly.

I have a tiny follower base of 2,157 Followers... @Moonshot_MKTG and I haven't done much with it besides running a couple RSS feeds through it.

@belew its a children's book, a book with no pictures. Clever word play and fun interaction.

What other arenas is crowdfire good for? I'm getting into hootsuite to set up my posts and try not to drive myself insane between where I want to place content.

Don't be shy. Can we get a peek of the book?

What's the age group?

I have an 7.97 - year old. Her birthday is next week.

Would she enjoy it?

@belew

She certainly should Bill. Its called "Best Book Ever", up on Amazon.

It's a clever book with no pictures, just playing with words. I'm working on #2 and #3 in the series.

Please check it out. If you get the gumption to enjoy it via any means electronic (Free if you are part of Kindle Unlimited) or otherwise best favor you can do is leave an honest review and refer the book!

not only are Twitter followers fake, sometimes Twitter gives bogus numbers.

Yesterday I saw this at Twitter.

I even bragged abt it in the Massively Unfollow Twitter Thread

Only to have my number of impressions return to normal very quickly.

And wrote aboutthis "engagement" on somebody else's Twitter page.

Twitter has been somewhat kind to me ... but something is fishy ... very fishy.

But then again. Maybe I did get 100K.

But I don't think so.

Have you ever seen bogus numbers on your account?

So how does this really impact your twitter account? Other than the percentage of fake vs not fake. If a majority of your interactive (ie retweeting your tweets) followers have a substantial following themselves, isn't that what matters most?

@Ktucker Reach is important. Interaction is even more so important. I guess the whole point is driving quality traffic in a desired direction.

@Ktucker

Not if the retweets are coming automatically from fake accounts.

Real people, real engagement = real results.
