Defining a High-Quality Post - # of words1922

Belew private msg quote post Address this user
I was reading an advertisers definition of a high-quality post.

Keep in mind, this is what the advertiser thinks is a quality characteristic.

"Short & Sweet: This post clocks in at just over 230 words. It has substance, but doesn’t waste time: the post is an easily-digestible nugget that can be read during a walk to refresh a cup of coffee. There’s not much risk of someone clicking away out of boredom, frustration, or distraction." (Emphasis is mine)

How long is too long? Or how short is too short?

"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler," right?

..or here's another great quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

"Perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add but when there is no longer anything to take away.."

@jycmba

An 800-word answer to a 200-word question is NEVER better just because it's longer.

Nor is a 200-word answer to an 800-word question better because it is brief.

The best post is the one that satisfies the query.

Butchering a Clinton quote, "It's the query, stupid."

Of course, @jycmba, I am not calling you stupid. 8-)

Ogden Nash gave us his example of the perfect poem:

Peas,
Please.

A lot of other poets would disagree.

@jycmba If memory serves me correctly that's ee cummings

@Rev ...

Brussel sprouts
OUT!

@Belew Couldn't agree more - I love the idea that someone can read a post waiting in line, waiting to pick up the kids etc.

My thinking is a good post shouldn't take longer to read than the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee.

Long is only in the readers eyes. The writer is never finished - long to me is several hundred words 1000+ whereas long to my daughter is anything over 400 -
