“There is far more overcoaching than undercoaching in basketball. It’s a great game, an intricate game, but we should not make it complicated,” John Wooden.

Does it not depend upon the 'coachees'?

Some people need a little tap; others a shove; and many a swift kick up the backside.

Tap, shove or kick? Are we talking abt the coach or the coached?

@Belew ... the coached.

Even in a team each individual has to be coached at a different rate.

In the 70s Bill Walton received more than 200 offers for scholarships.

Only 4 coaches were invited to meet him in his home.

" ... the coach who left the strongest impression was the one who promised the least."

What do you promise those you coach?

Following on my previous thread....

"'I won’t even promise you’ll make the team,' Wooden told Walton. 'First, you’ll have to prove you are a fine young man with good personal values. Then you’ll have to demonstrate you can do well in the classroom. If you can do that, we’ll give you a practice jersey and allow you to try out.'”

How many coaches promise the world before the student proves themselves coachable?
