Love/Hate Relationship with Chinese WeChat2048

Forum Owner Belew private msg quote post Address this user
Yeesh! Yet another IM that I have to keep on my phone.

Really?

Yesterday I was pinged via WeChat by a Chinese fellow (WeChat is China's biggest IM app).

We met back in June according to my WeChat record.

We swapped info a bit and met once just to brainstorm a bit.

Turns out, now they have funding and some money to use for marketing.

We are meeting tomorrow ... in person ... he uses WeChat but he's local to me.

And he wants me to teach him and his team how to get going online.

WeChat ... if it were not on my phone, I'd likely have missed this opportunity.

@Belew

Congrats on the deal. Hope it goes well.

You've also pointed out the key problem with the cell phone as a device for accessing the Internet...

With a typical computer (desktop, laptop, notepad, even tablet) it's one browser, access the whole thing. With a smart phone it's one app it's one app, one service. You end up needing dozens, and probably having hundreds, of apps to do what the single web browser used to do.

Ah, but the games... the games!

I had never heard of KakaoTalk till earlier this year.

And now I am on it several times a day!

It's the IM of choice for the Korean demographic. And I have a dedicated group of Koreans who want me to be there.

@belew this is great advice. It really is amazing where connections spring up sometimes.I honestly use my phone more for business any more than personal or even games @Rev -sorry-lol.

May I ask if you speak these languages?Just thinking that they may expect that if on their networks.

@tammysoffices

I can speak Japanese as well as I speak English.

I can converse in Chinese and Russian.

My daughter knows one word in EVERY language in the world.

"Wah!!!" It's the same in every language.
