What if you had a do over and the time to do it?

I am talking specifically about starting over online.

How would you do things differently?
What would you do differently?

Imagine you had the time to do it ... daily, weekly ... and you were not in a hurry ... you have years to develop.

What lessons have you learned and how would you do things differently?

Doing it over in years is not a do over. Are you retiring?
I do things over all the time. I must be doing alright and have more to do. God hasn't sent for me yet.

I will focus in developing my creative writing and drawing skills.

I'm with @morrnel!

I think the two most important corrections I would make:

1) don't buy so many domain names -- great names, great ideas, not enough time!

2) don't take on so many great ideas -- stay focused on a manageable handful.

Sometimes you just have to let good ideas/concepts slide. Better focus on the right ones leads to better outcomes.

The trick is picking the right ones!

@Rev

I have the idea ... I want to build out a platform for my daughter ... that she can, in turn, build on when she takes over.

I want to 'it' right.

What do you suggest?

@belew Will she appreciate it? If I'm your daughter, I really appreciate it.

@Belew

Where is the focus of your daughter's interests? (not yours!) Where will it be in 15 years? 30 years?

@Rev

I don't know where her interests will be this afternoon. 8-) Well, I do sort of.

I want to build out something that she can build on regardless of where her interests take her.

How do I do that?

@belew Why not ask your daughter?

It would be great if she was interested in participation (building on) but it would be even better if you could leave a legacy that would provide income whether she is interested or even participates.

Or perhaps participation is the price of admission.

@belew, I wouldn't be to worried. Today I talked to a fellow who is completely rewriting to a new framework even though it is perfectly functional. Imagine you had developed your website in 1999 using 1999 technology. Would you be happy with it today even though it still works perfectly?

@morrnel

Probably not ... but I wish I had started producing content in 1999 and still had that content. Don't you?

@Rev

Something she can have and do with or without as she pleases.

By the time she is heading off to college IF colleges and universities are still around in 10 years ... she will have already been online for 14-15 years. Her peers won't be able to touch that.

No? Yes?

@Belew

Absolutely! And equally, in 10 years, WordPress won't be anything like it is now. Perhaps the whole online experience will have changed to be unrecognizable to us now. These days 10 year plans, even 5 year plans, are fraught with problems relating to the speed of change.
