I'm Out of Money. Can you help?2724

I tried getting ahead of the curve on this one.

Far too many times I have been approached AFTER someone's marketing budget has been exhausted and the results were insufficient.

Have you ever been approached by someone AFTER all their money was gone?

How often do you hear a sob story?

The recent story is "I don't want to spend any money, but letting you rewrite my blogs in your spare time and and letting you add your name at the end -- I will be doing you a REALLY BIG FAVOR!". The artificial cheery voice . . . it was like listening to a friend or neighbor trying to draw me in to sell Tupperware.

My response - I charge $$ for editing, let me know if you want to continue.

Their response - Let's not continue at this time.

Sob story? No.
Irritation story? Yes.

@belew Oh.

I had been approached to do free work then will recommend me a job.

@rcayeras How will you respond if someone asks you, "do the animation and I will recommend you an animation job because I have a friend who does animation job?"

And also at first, pay me for the creating the work. When there is problem, I rectify it quietly. Then recently I learn to speak up on the problems I went through and how I rectify it. The person refuses to pay with the explanation on debt. I feel very upset. How do you respond to it?

How do you really tell whether people mean in what they say?

Recently, I also learn how to quote and to be careful. And experience the idiom, "once bitten twice shy".

In the end, I really appreciate my friend to introduce me to a job. She doesn't know what happen to me. I just take the job, do it and get paid.

When most of my work was face-to-face I used to keep a couple of copies of this in my brief case. Now I just give out the URL.

"Get back to me when you have read this and have a budget..."

If they do, I know I have a serious contender. If they don't, well, they don't.

Tienny - do a job for free and the next job you'll be paid?
It sounds like a job interview that is expensive for you.
I understand wanting to see samples of what you have done before, but being asked to create something, which I assume is the size of a "regular job", then you'll get paid the 2nd time you do a job.

Charge twice as much for the 2nd job? I actually don't consider that a realistic response. More realistic: a job is a job, and a salary comes with it.

@tienny

I agree with @rcayeras . Don't do it if you don't get paid.

@tienny

I've been around a while. I've run across a thing or two. As a Man Thinketh has been around a while longer. Now you've run across it too. That's how you find such things.

@rev Yeah. Found it through you. And also through @belew at AFCC2014 masterclass.

Thanks @belew @rev and also to @rcayeras to have a better understanding.

I learn a very expensive lesson.
