Using MeetUp to Grow My Business Network513

Top Contributor Steve private msg quote post Address this user
Coming here to this forum has helped me tremendously ... sometimes in the strangest ways. I often hear Bill speak about meetups and for the last ten years I've run my own small networking group.

Two weeks ago I took the plunge and put it on Meetup, and as a result of that we have an additional dozen or so people coming to next weeks event... and our membership is growing.

On top of that, I have just been asked if I want to take over Perth's Online Marketing group, which has 169 members... as the original organizer has stepped down.

Just wanted to share that, opportunities come from the strangest places, now I have to decide if I want to run it.

@Steve

That's easy. Take it. Run it.

My Meetup membership has grown to 5500+ and has benefited me numerous ways.

Take it.

About a month ago I was asked to collaborate on writing a book on how to use Meetups to grow a network and do business. I have an outline but no time.

Take it.

@Belew ok I've send a message saying I'll take it... I can see how passionate you are ... and I love to see, that.

You'll be glad you did. After you get it let's talk.

With one MU account you know you can have 3 groups.

What's your 3rd group?

I didn't know you can have three groups, that's even better, no extra costs...

So i have...

Business Referral Group
Grow Your Business On-line Perth

Important - your 3 groups should be loosely enough related that you can have one Meetup meeting with one topic but be able to invite all 3 groups to attend.

I can see the sense in that, awesome advice thank you.

My two fastest growing groups are Bay Area Social Media Marketing and Silicon Valley Social Media Marketing.

They have 455 and 637 members respectively.

How about Perth Social Media Marketing?

When and where do these meetup groups meet? Should I just go on meetup site and add myself?

@meuseriam

We meet in Los Altos. Are you living in the Bay area?

I live in San Jose. Los Altos is a drive so it depends on day and time.

Don't you just love online networking, here we are and I've inherited a new meetup group and @meuseriam and @Belew look like they are going to be meeting up real soon.

Just shows you the power of getting involved.

Deleted this as it seems to be completely useless...

Guess I should say something...

How many men does it take to change a toilet roll?
Who knows, they never change it....

Even I feel this forum helps me. And I am thankful for this meetup and the opportunity Bill gives.

@tienny could never forget you, you make me think most days and remind and help me on all sorts of things. You have a habit of almost putting yourself down "even I feel" wish you would stop this and be more positive and sure of yourself ... because I value your input here, as I imagine does everyone else.

@Steve In what ways do I remind you? Even I am trying to stop putting myself down.

@tienny You ask questions that I don't think of and I say... interesting... or someone answer one of your questions and that reminds me of something ... or even better I learn something new from either you or others in your thread... hope that makes sense.

I had a business mentor that used to say "life is a self fulfilling prophecy" ...

@Steve I see. I never expect that. I thought people find me weird. Because my friends have been finding me weird.

This is the name of my new group

Online, Content and Social Media Marketing Perth

I thought I would take all of the best keywords and throw them all together ...

Let's see if this group can attract some members now.

I know have three groups...

Business Referral Club
Grow Your Business Online Perth
Online, Content and Social Media Marketing Perth

The first group is my original group and has been running for ten years, the second group is the group I was offered and have now secured... and the last is a brand new group.

And I was happy running just the one group till this thread.

I just love meetup, those that have followed this thread will know that i started a brand new group

Online, Content and Social Media Marketing Perth

This group already have 22 members, with 7 booked to attend our first meeting and we still have over a week before our first meeting... so things are looking good.

I remember when i started my first networking group, the Business Referral One, meetup.com didn't exist then so it was much, much harder...

I would urge everyone here to either start their own group, or to get involved in a local one and help the event organizer run things.
