Finding Inspiration at Pixar Studios515

Belew private msg quote post Address this user
Indeed we can find inspiration in the most unlikely of places. But sometimes in the most likely as well.

On my recent trip to Shanghai I read two books about Pixar.

Creativity, Inc, written by Ed Catmull, the computer scientist and president of Pixar Animation Studios.

I followed that book up with The Pixar Touch by David Price.

Computer science, street sweepers/jungle cruisers, raiders, rejected company founders ... Pixar!

Lots and lots of inspiration.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in the pastor's messages at my church.....and I follow that up with making it a standing event to have lunch with a group of friends followed by a walk or hike at a park or in the neighborhood with the same group. It is a singles group from our
church and every week someone new joins us. We network, share, laugh, and build community. I have even made business connection!

@meuseriam

How does this church source of inspiration help you be more creative at work?

Part of what I talk about when I teach content marketing is storytelling. Storytelling and Pixar go hand in hand.

How about for you, your work and church?

@Belew

Church, like Pixar, is all about story telling. The difference is one uses fear and intimidation to create their "tribe".

@Rev fear is a great motivator, the insurance industry wouldn't exist without it ... I know I use it sometimes in call to actions... and isn't that what all those countdown counters you see are for ... get this before it is withdrawn ... fear of loss or missing out ...

Church and Pixar ... lots in common... both tell stories, both entertain, frighten and use fear ... and both offer a happy ending .

Church keeps me focused....the messages fuel me with new ideas....other perspectives....positive teachings.....a focus on helping others. I work in non-profit.....there's always a story to tell.

@meuseriam There is nothing wrong too to work in the commercial company. The most important thing is to bring benefit to the society. No matter what, we are accountable to God.

I've seen this a couple of different times - a couple of different ways.. just curious which one *clicks* with you more - A or B?

A - Pixar 22 Rules of Storytelling with Stills

B - Pixar 22 Rules of Storytelling with Silhouettes

@jycmba

I'll go with the stills.

Thanks for this!

Heading to KL in a couple of weeks and part of my presentation deals with storytelling. These links might just come in handy.

I love this place!

@jycmba

Which of these two do you prefer?

The silhouettes only work if you know what they represent.

The pics will speak for themselves even you don't know the story.

Good point - I guess it depends on whether or not you assume the viewer is familiar with Pixar films.

The silhouettes work with folks who are very familiar, and let the message come across more.

The pics offer a quick "1000 words" glimpse if they are not.

I find inspiration from reminders of what is true.

These reminders come from God through people, Scripture, music, nature, art and simple things.
