Another SEO update from Google575

Google announced they’ll change the way they represent URLs in search results: the website name will be used instead of the domain name and the URL structure will be used as breadcrumbs.

I'm not sure how or if that affects rankings.

Any opinions of this? A few are posted on that page above.

@rcayeras

The root domain has long been inconsequential.

Categories, titles and content are the ranking factors among a few other things of course.

just write good stuff and you will be found.

I had some very stupid domain names for a long time. They still got very good traffic.

@Belew May I know the domain name you feel stupid of?

The domain name really isn't a biggie in search. Sure, if it contains the actual keyword it can help but as @Belew says, it's content that matters.

For people, if they know the domain name they are not likely to look for you with search. They already know where to find you. Spend your effort optimizing other things that really matter.

@tienny

I have let the old domains expire. In retrospect, I should have kept them.

Oh, well...

They are gone. I wrote about business in the pan asian region and business in Japan.
