@Steve - this one topic alone is inspiring me to write about how to find inspiration in different places.

..like these other blog posts I've already written, of course..

Creativity Lessons in the Kitchen/

What Tango Taught Me About Creativity

..How Even Fear Has Taught Me to Be More Creative

(This last one I can definitely spin a few times at least on just the fear - creativity thing alone!)

Adding the questions you answer to your own blog ... is there an easier way to come up with ideas you can use? (I'm pretty sure I just asked a rhetorical question. )

Let me share one of my best tips ... go to Google news and type in whatever your niche is ... ie content marketing you can see what the breaking news is ... and this can give you ideas and you can often ride the wave of popular stories.

@rcayeras - not sure I understand the question.

What is the challenge that you have?

Finding ideas to write about your niche?

Finding interesting ways to write about these?

Just want to make sure that I understand what you're really driving at so I can better respond.

From Hubspot's Marketer's Guide to Writing Good:

I ALWAYS GET WRITER’S BLOCK.

"The scariest moment is always just before you start." - Stephen King

Writer’s block is an annoyance, but it’s not a reason not to write. Force yourself to get started wherever it’s easiest – jotting down an outline, pulling quotes, conceiving storylines – just for the sake of making a blank screen less intimidating.

The time/organization thing also has an impact on writing. If you have stuff on your mind and you don't do anything about it or put off something that could be completed easily, what an impact you'll have on your writing ability.

I'll add just a bit more to that @morrnel - although I'm not religious, I've very familiar with scripture.

Ironically, it's John 1:1 that says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.."

Besides the marketing things that we talk about, sometimes we forget how we are literally creating worlds with our words.

"Artists use lies to tell the truth.." By skillfully inviting our audience into these worlds we create, you have the chance to not only share an experience -

..you can literally shape a new world for them!

"With great power comes great responsibility" - never forget the power that you wield as a content marketer!

@jycmba

when I am speaking to groups of marketers I often open with the line, "Marketers have the ability to change the world." Or some variation of that.

I just installed a Bible app on my new Tab and that was the verse it opened to.

So, was that proof of God, proof of synchronicity, or just the most likely verse to use as an opener for an app other than, perhaps, Gen. 1:1?
Post 44 • IP   flag post
jycmba private msg quote post Address this user
@Rev @morrnel - that's the ironic part.. the forbidden fruit we ate was the blessing or curse of "choice."

If you choose to believe there's no such thing as synchronicity, you're right.. if you choose to believe in all things happening as they should, you're right.

As Henry Ford said, 'Whether you think you can, or you think you can't -- you're right.'

I prefer to have choice.

If I didn't have a choice, I wouldn't even know that I didn't.

What was it Don Rumsfeld said about "unknown unknowns"?

@Rev, It could even be proof of global warming or cooling...

If anyone was a fan of the Alfred Hitchcock series back in the days of black and white, there was an episode on how one's life was assembled scene by scene.

If you misplaced your keys, it was because a scene was missing and the scene gild would put them back in a later scene.

@Belew, if you thought you had choice, how do you know you did?

Is that the show where they voted people off the island? ;o)

A lot of people don't realize it, but before they invented color the whole world was black and white!

You're right, color was invented in Pleasantville. I watched the movie.

Not certain if it was the same episode. It's been 45 years or so since I last watched the reruns.

Re: Color.

That's a great idea for releasing writer's block.

When all else fails ... change the color, then ask yourself, "What'll happen now?" And write about that.

Read a lot.

Play more.

Learn something new.

These activities will open up the gates to more ideas.

Get asked to do something you don't usually do to/for people you don't usually do things for at places you don't usually go.

I got invited to speak at a retirement home as a pinch-hitter for a friend who couldn't make it.

I spoke on a topic I knew nothing in a setting I have never been in before to a group I had never met.

It really got the juices flowing.
