Which do you prefer:

Pay the reasonable price and attend an event in person and interact with real people and the speakers...

or

just get the information via live streaming and/or watching a recording.

I prefer "Pay the reasonable price and attend an event in person and interact with real people and the speakers" directly without any internet barrier.

I much prefer the association of being there in person but, of late, limitations on my ability to travel make virtual attendance capability a welcome option.

I am thinking hard about organizing my own event here in the Bay Area in the Fall...it'd be great to have you here.

@Belew

Maybe you can set up a "virtual visitors table" and have a laptop with a webcam and Skype connection for each virtual attendee. I'll "be" there!

@Rev

Live streaming/recording and virtual attendance ... lots of possibilities.

@Belew

Done right you could get press coverage just on that idea alone. Coverage of the actual event would be a bonus.

@Belew, Didn't you share sometime back that the importance of attending these events was the networking part?

I signed up for a meetup yesterday that gave me the option of pay to attend or stream for less. I chose attend.

Since this is a pay to RSVP, I can expect to meet at least 75 people.

Streaming has lots of potential though.
It is important who you know. More important who knows you.

I was interviewed late last year ... and the host asked me about the future ...

"In the future it will not be about who you know, but who knows you."

I had to keep talking because she sat there stunned.

@morrnel

What if you could attend a somewhat intimate event... say 50-100 people and you were guaranteed that you could meet EVERYONE else at the event.

Provided the topic of the event was of interest and the people attending were in a similar niche or doing something similar in a different niche ... would that be interesting?

Maybe I'll send a surrogate wearing an iPad on a cord around their neck. Gotta really think about this...

@Rev, just buy one of these and you can run around and meet everyone there from your living room! A Double Telepresence Robot.

Y'know, thinking about this for a moment, there is a business here for someone living in a convention city -- rent these suckers to people who want to remote attend. This could be the new "Uber".

At the time I wrote that post I was not aware that a new television series called "Human", which deals with a similar theme, began today. Synchronicity.
