If This is a Free Country Then Why ...932

Forum Owner Belew private msg quote post Address this user
"If this s a free country then why do we have to pay for everything?" my wife asks.

America is a free country. However, in a free country, whenever people are free to do anything, somebody will do pretty much anything.

Still. ... I prefer to have the choice.

Don't you?

Happy Independence Day to all the Americans here in the forum.

Be safe today. There are crazies 'out there.'

"Free" is not without responsibility.

A recent political poll asked respondents, "What do you think about the state of ignorance and apathy in the country today?"

The #1 answer:

"I don't know and I don't care."

While this is nothing more than a political joke (like some politicians!) it also suggest it is our obligation to seek the truth, to learn, and to get involved.

Happy 4th!

This thread inspired me to revive an old article I wrote about my navy days and where I started thinking about what freedom means..

I think with freedom comes responsibility as well.

So why do so many people think freedom means they can do as they please no matter who they annoy?

@Belew People seek the freedom of expression more than the freedom of thought. That quote might be attributed to someone else, the Matrix, or to a fortune cookie... but its TRUE. Dumb people are always highly opinionated.

Dumb people perhaps don't have the capacity to think beyond what will affect them.

unselfish people on the other hand understand delayed gratification.

Good point @lunar_ranger !

Freedom is indeed a responsibility. But too many people take it for granted.
