Thanks for popping in!

The Margaret Thatcher quote on being powerful comes to mind when I think about what it means to be an influencer.

In another thread @jycmba asked about business books that we would recommend. I touched on being an influencer there as well.

What does an influencer look and act like?

In my studies of the influencer I admire most I have already come up with:

199 and growing Characteristics of an Influencer:

S/he ....

1. Is recognized as someone who can deliver ....
2. Doesn't need to blow his/her own horn. Someone else will do it.
3. Will initiate something original, new, different.
4. Is humble.
5. Will literally immerse himself/herself into the work they will do.
6. Will put themselves completely 'out there' to be held accountable.
7. Will be recognized by someone even more influential
8. Will not be afraid to face every challenge that his/her followers will face.
9. Will launch into his/her mission full bore.
10. Will do the hard work. Will get up, move, get out.
11. Will recruit his/her tribe.
12. Will teach his/her tribe how to recruit others as well.
13. Will go to where his/her market when necessary.
14. Will teach with authority.
15. Will not suffer the need to be like everyone else.
16. Is not afraid to do the hard stuff.
17. Will amaze others.
18. Will have what s/he does and teach be spread virally.
19. Will not be too busy to take time out for old ladies.
20. Will not be too busy to take time out for the unfortunate.
21. Will get up early, very early, if need be to get focused on the task at hand.
22. Will not let his tribe tell him what to do.
23. Will keep the main thing the main thing.
24. Will put in the miles and mile and miles ...
25. Will not be too busy to deal with the really hard problem.
26. Will handle the problems nobody else will even touch.
27. Will always have a plan B.
28. Will be there ready and waiting when the "people still come to him from everywhere."

That's just the beginning of what I admire most about my favorite influencer.

Thanks for reading. I thought I was building this list by myself.

I have been contracted by a company very recently to create videos to dive deeper into this list.

94 is where I paused. I will add to it.

I am fascinated by what I think is a real Influencer and what is being portrayed as an Influencer in media.

@Belew

The policies and algorithms of Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google, etc. can be a factor in determining who is perceived as an influencer from a global or regional perspective. Perhaps their revenues are best served by addressing the needs of large entities. One example might be illustrated by @Steve's comments on how LinkedIn has changed policy regarding publishers. Do you see this as a valid observation?

If so, if a small businessman wants to be perceived as an influencer ... do you think that he/she should look at your list and prioritize your factors based on the relevant set of policies and algorithms? In effect; is the playing field for a small businessman "more level" in perhaps Social Network A as opposed to perhaps Social Network B?

@Jonnner

I think that if a person goes into any effort with the mindset they want to become an influencer they are fighting a losing battle.

The very first post in this thread ... the line from Margaret Thatcher comes to mind.

Don't try to be an influencer. Be what an influencer is. The influence will follow. That mindset is at the heart of this list.

Makes sense?
